What is Fair Trade?

Fair Trade is a trading partnership, based in dialogue, transparency and respect that searches for a fairness in the international trade, Contributing to a sustainable development, offering better commercial conditions and assuring rights of marginalized producers and workers, especially in the South countries.

The Fair Trade’s Organizations supported by consumers, are actively implied in supporting the Producers, sensitizing and developing campaigns to obtain changes in rules and practices of the conventional international trade.





There are basic conditions in ORDER for a transaction to be considered a commercial exchange of Fair Trade:

  • commerce relationship between producers and consumers should be as direct as possible;

  • promoting the “right price” that allows the producer and his family to live with dignity on his/her work and enjoy his/her labor rights; and

  • to establish relations and contracts in the long term, based on the mutual respect.

Under the concept Fair Trade gathers a set of criteria, as defined in the international network for Fair Trade, FINE. Considering the characteristics of the different countries and groups, these criteria are guarded by continuous monitoring and certification of FLO (Fair Trade Labeling Organizations International). Organization that gives the Quality Seal of the Fair Trade and IFAT (International Federation for Alternative Trade).
